Mary Grant Obituary

Mary Sue Hawkins Grant, 84, passed away January 28, 2021, at her home in Lake City, TN. She was born December 12, 1936 to Claude David and Nancy Ann Heatherly Hawkins. Married to Bobby Gene Grant on October 24, 1959. They were married for 46 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Grant, brothers Jerry Hawkins, Ronnie and Donnie Hawkins, Lloyd Hawkins, Norris Hawkins and sisters Lillie Mae Hawkins and Josie Claudine Manning.

Mary Sue is survived by her children: daughter Shannon (David) Sumner, and son Gene Grant (Beth Mantooth). Grandchildren: Garrett Sumner and Margaret Sumner. Sisters: Faye (Curtis) Cooper, Katherine Hawkins, Geneva (Ronnie) Norton and Cherry (Pat) Lane. Several nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband Bobby for many years and then with her many friends visiting different parts of the world. Most days you could find her in her garden and outside. She knew the lessons from the garden extended beyond the dirt and soil. She enjoyed walking the Songbird trail and many others in Norris and exercising. Throughout her life she carried strength and grace into any situation and could cultivate and build wonderful friendships.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 2nd, from 5pm to 7pm, at Hatmaker Funeral Home, Lake City, TN. The service will follow with Rev. Randy Norton to officiate.
