Onvia “Bo” Phillips, 65, of Caryville, TN, went home to the Lord on March 17, 2026. Born on October 11,1960 in Oak Ridge, TN to Abe and Lillian Phillips. Bo had worked as a coal miner, logger, and had over forty years’ experience as a brick mason. He was of the Baptist faith and had been a past “Master Mason” of Caryville Lodge #665. He loved quoting the bible and especially telling stories about Apostle Paul. Bo was a philosopher of sorts and a poet. He had a deep love for the mountains, ginseng, fishing, and hanging out with Red Chief. Bo was known for his unique sense of humor, a gift for storytelling, patience, compassion, and kind heart.
Bo is survived by wife (separated): Crystal Phillips; Loving companion: Christel “Roadrunner” Weltch. Brother: Houston Phillips; Sisters: Lorene McGhee, Denna Phillips, Inez Carson, Glenna Jennings, and Trudy Phillips. Children: Lillian Phillips, Leah Phillips, Kenton Phillips, Matthew “Ransom” Phillips, Hanna “Bug” Dobson, Sarah Rose Phillips, and “stepdaughter” Rachel Kennedy. He has nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Bo was always a helping hand in raising several nieces and nephews.
Bo was preceded in death by parents: Abe and Lillian Phillips; Brothers: Arlie Phillips, Cecil Phillips, Lester Phillips, and Gordon Phillips.
Hatmaker’s Funeral Home will receive family and friends from 1-2pm, Sunday March 22, 2026, in Rocky Top, TN. Directly after, the burial will be at Rains Grove Cemetery on Dove Way Lane in Caryville, TN.
