Mary Marie Anderson of Cherry Bottom in Caryville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 just 22 days shy of her 95th birthday.

Born in Coal Creek, TN she was the oldest of three children. Dedicated to her family she quit school at the age of 15 to help her mother run the family farm after her father passed. Marie continued to be a hard worker for the rest of her life, and simply did not like sitting idle. After her daughter began school she went to work at Imperial Reading as a seamstress and did this work for 40 years. When the last factory she worked in closed she began to work at the Department of Human Services in Campbell County. There she was a file clerk until the age of 87 when her health no longer permitted her to work. Also, dissatisfied with the fact that she never completed her high school degree she decided to return to school and at the age of 72 obtained her GED.

A faithful Christian and member of Cherry Bottom Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved her church family and appreciated all the support they gave her throughout her life.

Marie had many hobbies. She loved to quilt, garden, craft, do word search puzzles, and color. Also, she loved to work and take care of her home and family. In recent years her health did not permit her to do much around the house, but to quote Marie, “If I could walk I would be…” Fill in that blank with any chore or undesirable activity, such as dusting. Tasks that she would have been happy to complete so that the work “got done.”

Marie also loved to socialize and would become friends with anyone she met. All who knew her would say that she was fun loving, outgoing, strong willed, energetic, and especially feisty. She was a woman who knew her mind and was known to “tell it like it is,” a trait that often made those who knew her laugh because of her fearless nature.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Anderson; parents, Thomas and Beulah Leach; brother, J.T. Leach and wife Anna; sister, Rubye Mae Hatmaker and husband Arthur; in-laws, Conley and Odessie Anderson; and brother-in-law, David Ralph Anderson and wife Josephine.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Kaye Presley and husband Tom; granddaughter, Heather Presley; grandson, Thomas Presley and wife Tatum of Kingsport; great-grandbabies, Kara and Emma Presley, of Kingsport; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will all mourn her loss. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to her nieces Carolyn Lay and Ellen Cannon who helped care for their Aunt Marie, the Clinch River Home Health staff and Aspire who provided such excellent care for her through recent years, and Serita Evans who brought a smile to her face every week.

Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She always made those around her feel loved and more specifically made them laugh. Her absence leaves a huge hole in the lives of all who knew her, but also tremendous joy for having known such an amazing and spunky woman.
